The Dark Horse Irish Pub, commonly known as “An Capall Dorcha,” is a distinctive and endearing place situated in the old Flint Hill village. The building, which is located in what was formerly the Griffin Tavern, has a lengthy and interesting history that dates back to the 1850s. The structure was once the Bradford family’s home and then served as the community’s local shop before becoming a pub.

Mark Kirwan, is from the small beautiful town of Roscrea County Tipperary, Mark is pleased to bring a small piece of Ireland to the beautiful historic Flint Hill in Rappahannock county. Mark owns two other restaurants, Kirwan’s on the wharf in Washington DC and Samuel Beckett’s Irish gastro pub in Arlington VA. Before opening his restaurants Mark worked in the equine industry back home in Ireland which is what initially brought him over to the States. Mark also worked for the Guinness brewery as well as a lengthy career in law enforcement. Mark was an avid rugby player and coach and loves to watch rugby matches whenever he has down time. Mark also runs a horse sanctuary farm with his girlfriend Abby and Abby’s daughter Ana Vera just a short drive from the Dark Horse in Flint Hill.
The Dark Horse is a relaxed dining spot that acts as a center for community interaction in Flint Hill, Rappahannock County, Virginia. Three private dining rooms, seasonal outdoor seating, and a pub-style area called “Cheers Like” are all highlights of the restaurant, which is located in a gorgeously rebuilt 1800s mansion. Cheers Like draws both regulars and casual customers to its unique menu. For smaller groups, special events, and business meetings, the bar also has private dining rooms upstairs.
